A Galena Country summer tradition, the Great Galena Balloon Race fills the skies with colorful hot air balloons, live music, and family-friendly fun, all while raising funds for charity.

The Great Galena Balloon Race takes place annually on the third weekend in June at the North Course Driving Range, Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa.
This three-day event features:
-Hot air balloon races at sunrise and sunset
-Nightglow balloon displays
-Live music and entertainment
-Food and beverages for purchase
-Kids activities and inflatables
-Classic car show (Saturday)All proceeds benefit Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) and Camp Hertko Hollow.

Friday & Saturday Evening (5–10 PM)
-5:00 PM – Gates open, food & drinks available
-5:30 PM – Live music
-6:00 PM – Balloon launch/race
-8:30 PM – Nightglow Extravaganza
-Kids inflatables (5–9 PM)Saturday
-6:00 PM – Classic Car Show
Saturday & Sunday Morning
-5:00 AM – “Crack of Dawn” Balloon Race
Early morning launches are peaceful and quick. Balloons typically set up and take off within about 30 minutes.

Free parking is available at designated lots with shuttle service to the event field.

Food and beverages are available for purchase throughout the event, including:
-Burgers, hot dogs, and walking tacos
-Soft drinks, beer, and winePlease note:
-No outside food or coolers allowed
-All food and beverages at the event are purchased using event tickets. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased with cash only at the ticket booth. Food and drink vendors will accept tickets instead of cash. -
-Arrive early for evening events to grab a good viewing spot before the balloons launch
-Bring a blanket or lawn chair for comfort
-Morning flights are quieter and less crowded — perfect for photos!
-Weather matters: Balloon flights depend on wind and conditions

-Pets are allowed but should be comfortable in crowds and leashed
-Expect large crowds, especially Saturday evening
-This is an outdoor event with limited shade
