Stay in good company at Illinois’ oldest operating hotel, whose most notable visitor was President Abraham Lincoln, who spoke from its Main Street balcony in 1856. Ulysses S. Grant used rooms 209 and 211 as his presidential campaign headquarters. This Galena hotel also has a haunted history. For years, guests claimed to see a ghost disappear into the walls. Workers discovered a hidden doorway behind the plaster in 2011. The hotel keeps it on display in honor of the “Lady in Black.”
