Guided explorations of rare birds in the wild and Native American archaeological sites.
As a new or returning visitor to Galena Country, you can’t help but be struck with the beauty and wonder all around you. The unique and stunning geological features of our landscape provided Native Americans and the first Europeans with hills of exposed lead to mine, a mighty river to travel upon and woodlands and prairies rich with all they needed to build settlements and thrive.
Today, many elements of this landscape and heritage remain and are being conserved and protected by the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF). And JDCF is now offering you an opportunity to explore some of these remarkable treasures of Galena Country with expert guides. JDCF safaris will take you to the habitats of rare and beautiful birds and to the remnants of ancient Native peoples, still visible after thousands of years.
