This 409-acre Bird Sanctuary is Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation's newest preserve. There are over 6 miles of trails for you to explore at this unique place, which is managed and protected primarily for the many bird species that call it home. To date, there have been documented sightings of over 100 different bird species at Valley of Eden with April through August being the prime viewing season. In March 2020 it was designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA)

Notable Illinois species of conservation concern include the Henslow’s sparrow, bobolink, red-headed woodpecker, and northern harrier. More common species such as a variety of woodpeckers, owls, and grassland birds can be seen too, making Valley of Eden a birding paradise for people of all ages and birding abilities.

Groomed cross country ski trails are available for use when there is snow. Please call JDCF 815.858.9100 to check the trail status before heading out. A visitors guide can be found here VOE Visitors Guide.

Please note that dogs are only allowed from October 1st through April 31st.
