Guided Tour of Casper Bluff

One of Jo Daviess County’s most cherished sites just got better. “We receive a lot of questions from visitors to Casper Bluff Land and Water Reserve. So, we’ve created guided tours, by trained volunteers, to help answer many of these questions about this beloved place,” said Steve Barg, JDCF Executive Director.

Guides will lead you over mowed trails to part of the Aiken Mound group, a series of Native America mounds that were built in approximately 700-900 A.D. as part of the Effigy Mound culture and includes a rare, intact effigy mound in the shape of a Thunderbird. You will also view the Mississippi River to hear about the many rare and wondrous birds that can be seen during the spring and fall migrations.

Other topics include the prairie and oak savanna ecosystems found there as well as the story of how Casper Bluff came to be. Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to discover all that Casper Bluff has to offer.
