Galena Country is open!

We look forward to welcoming guests to Galena Country to support our small businesses and enjoy unique, one-of-a-kind experiences. We ask that you travel and enjoy our destination responsibly. Please bring a face mask, it is required!


Being a safe, responsible, and respectful traveler has never been more important. It’s in your best interest, as well as those of our residents, workforce, and fellow visitors. Please do your homework upfront and be prepared to adhere to the following guidelines:

Face Coverings: Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health announced that face masks are required in the State of Illinois as of May 1, 2020, for those aged two years and older.

  • A face mask or similar article that completely covers your nose and mouth is required in all indoor and outdoor public areas, including when you go out walking, shopping, visiting attractions and dining.
  • Starting Sep. 29, 2020 and updated Oct. 22, 2020 revised guidelines for restaurants and bar establishments in our region were put into effect, removing indoor dining starting Oct. 3rd, and until further notice. Full guidelines may be found on the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) website

  • Masks are required if you are inside of, or in line to enter any indoor/outdoor public space, picking up food from your car window, and while waiting for, and on all public transportation and rideshares. 

  • Masks are also required when in outdoor public spaces. If you’re on less populated trails or engaged in outdoor recreation such as running, biking, and walking, pull up your mask when you encounter other people in close proximity. You don’t need to wear a mask in the water. 

  • *Those who are exempt from wearing a face mask include those with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering and those who are hearing impaired or communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication, do not need to use a face mask. Keep Your Distance:  Practicing social distancing is required. Please remain six feet away from those not in your traveling party at all times.

Galena Main Street Goes Pedestrian:  We're happy to announce that part of Galena's Main Street has been closed to car traffic from Hill to Meeker Street. This makes it easier to social distance makes for a lovely pedestrian zone. When traveling on Main Street, please contniue to practice social distancing of 6 feet or more. Cross streets will remain open to vehicle traffic so please be mindful of traffic.

Before Traveling: Be aware of the latest travel advisories and best-health practices from the CDC and IDPH

Call Ahead: Before visiting, we recommend confirming all reservations—especially if you made them in advance of the pandemic. This applies to hotels, restaurants, and attractions, as businesses are reopening at different paces with different guidelines for their guests.



  • Lodging: Properties are open. Please contact properties individually to learn more or check out our online booking platform.
  • Gatherings: All gatherings of 10 people or fewer are allowed. This limit subject to change based on the latest data & guidance.
  • Retail: Shops are open! Most are open from around 10am-6pm, 7 days a week.

    • Customers should not bring reusable shopping bags into stores

  • Wineries: Wineries, breweries and distrilleries are open to outdoor seating only. Please prepare to wear required face coverings
  • Dining and Bars: Restaurants are seating outdoors only until further notice. Many Galena Country restaurants have designated outdoor dining, including Main Street Galena, which is partially closed to traffic to accommodate proper social distancing and outdoor dining. See the full list of restaurants offering outdoor dining here.

    • Reservations encouraged
    • Customers should wait for service off-premises, either outdoors and maintain a social distance of 6-ft with use of face coverings, or in their vehicles.
    • Customers are required to wear face coverings over their nose and mouth while on premises (indoors and outdoors), when approached and served by staff, including but not limited to when employees take patrons orders, deliver food and beverages, and service tables.
  • Outdoors: Activities permitted in groups of 10 or fewer with social distancing. This includes, hiking, biking, boating and fishing. If you’re on less populated trails or engaged in outdoor recreation such as running, biking, and walking, pull up your mask when you encounter other people in close proximity. You don’t need to wear a mask in the water. 
  • Tours: Activities permitted in groups of 10 or fewer with social distancing and required face coverings
  • Attractions: Many attractions are open with limited capacity. Please call ahead and prepare to wear required face coverings

This is a great way to experience the different flavors of Galena Country at the same time as supporting local restauranteurs at this difficult time. Massbach Ridge Winery Vineyard: Retail sales, curbside pick-up, tours, and outdoor seating.
Pecatonica Beer Co. Tap House: Growler sales and refills.
Rocky Waters Winery: Retail sales and outdoor seating.
