Overview
Bring the family to JDCF’s 56-acre upland forest and enjoy hiking two miles of trails or simply relax and enjoy the native wildflowers and local wildlife from the shade of the Mark Schurmeier Memorial Shelter. This teaching forest hosts an interpretive trail with accompanying brochure that educates young and old about the types of trees found in a native forest. The trail also highlights forest management practices and their importance in creating and maintaining a healthy forest.
To reach Schurmeier Forest, take Hwy. 20 to Derinda Road just east of downtown Elizabeth. Travel a short distance to Tower Road, turn right and follow to Reusch Road. Take a left on Reusch and drive 1 ½ miles to the parking lot on the right side of the road. The entrance to the forest is on the left.
